Are you at risk?

Well, we all know that we're getting older by the day – sometimes it's a shock to see the photo on your driver's licence 5 years ago in comparison to how you look now!  (not necessarily gratifying )
We know that the genes we were given from our parents play a massive role in what stature, colouring etc we have.  We also have to take into account what else those genes have stored in them.
Does your family have a particular sickness or syndrome that runs in it?  Diabetes, arthritis, auto-immune diseases, high cholesterol and heart disease are just a few that make us 'pre-conditioned' to get these diseases.  Sure we can do a lot with the lifestyle we choose, the food we eat, but basically we can't do much about the colour of our skin, hair, eye colour and muscular shape – these are the basic genes we have no control over.
You've heard of the fat lady who complains she can't lose weight because it's in her genes? – it just MAY be.

Yes, even though we try to do our best in the knowledge of what our family's weaknesses are – mostly; we are 'held to ransom' because of the genes we are born with.
Though largely not in control of things like our hair and eye colour etc. we probably can do a LOT more about our PRE-DISPOSITION to family (hereditary) diseases.  It has to do with what our body has (or has not) when it's trying to perform its various duties!  Mal-nutrition is a problem for instance in the elderly.  Yes, they don't always eat meat and three vegetables at each sitting, but also because their various internal systems are shutting down and they can't process the food correctly to absorb the correct nutrients.  They don't have as many enzymes available to break down the food particles in their stomachs (to actually make some of the chemicals and vitamins that it should) and so the nutrients eaten just pass through the system without benefit.
The Nobel Prize winner Dr Hans Krebs was a scientist in the early 20th century who made the significant discovery: that if proper nutrition was given to the body in balanced proportions (28 vitamins, minerals, trace elements and amino acids) then the inner workings of cell-to-cell transmissions which transfers nutrients all round the body and maintains healthy red blood cells distributing oxygen to every cell in your body – maintains human optimal health. The cells are then also able to use and process fat and effectively eliminate waste products of each cell more effectively.. the whole body works better.

It seems to me, in this day and age of continual mass production of vegetables and therefore soil depletion of minerals; that even the food we DO eat does not have the minerals and goodness it used to have.  On top of this, not all of us even eat the required five (5) vegetables and fruits daily so we're not getting the roughage either.  It is at a rather sad vantage point that we now acknowledge WORLD obesity levels rising – and with it DIABETES (the silent killer).  On top of this is the lifestyles we lead these days – almost attached to a computer or video screen/TV from a young age – the exercise we used to get walking anywhere is now vetoed for a quick trip in the car.
ALL of this does not bode well for the younger generations of our kids – or even ourselves.  We all have to make wise lifestyle choices BUT on top of this; and possibly working against you are the genes you were born with.  Do we really think we are treating our bodies kindly enough so WE don't get what Uncle Joe had or what Mum died with?
No, each of us essentially need to decide that we're going to do our best to OUTSMART our hereditary pre-dispositions and TAKE CONTROL!
a) we need to take the blinkers off – our lifestyles and the foods we eat WILL catch up with us
b) we need to optimise the way our body treats and gets rid of 'the baddies' in our system.  We need to keep our immunity levels up
c) and we need to be wise in our decisions about everything we do for ourselves, for our families and most of all for our kids (they only have OUR 'wisdom' [or lack of] thrust on them)
d) there's even scientific opinion emerging today that is saying that even young children under the age of 5 are ABLE to have their genes modified by Alpha Lipid Lifeline colostrum – this is a good thing if there are known hazards in the genetic line!

Take a look at some of the products on this site like idea of the trilogy of:
1. Alpha Lipid Lifeline, Cellworx and Colostem – have a read of some of the scientific findings about these products- especially Cellworx and Colostem.
2. Also have a look at K28 – it's labelled as a 'meal replacement' but it has all the vitamins, minerals and trace elements and amino acids that not only help the elderly process food better but buffer their systems with the nutrients they need.
Alpha Lipid Lifeline is trademarked 'colostrum' because of the way the product is delivered to the body, it doesn't get destroyed by the stomach's acid. So why take, just 'any' colostrum when you may not be getting any benefit out of it at all?
I hope you have found this a thought provoking article.  Should you wish to contact me regarding anything in particular send an email to sharronw52@gmail.com and I will get back to you ASAP.
Thanks.  Live a LARGE and exciting life – do not JUST survive!

Diabetes causes Renal Disease

Diabetes is a potentially crippling condition that affects kidneys, intestines, heart, nerves and every other organ in the body. It is a problem in which the body is unable to produce or properly use insulin. Insulin, a hormone that is necessary for converting starches, sugar and other food into energy. The cause of diabetes is unknown and there is no known cure although effective management may be achieved under a endocrinologist’s care.
Endocrinologists are specialists that treat diabetes. They are easy to find in most areas. Here are some examples: David Alster, MD of Tucson AZ, Toheed J. Kamal, MD, FRCP, FACP, FACE of Northport, AL, Fernando Ovalle, MD, FACE of Vestavia Hills, AL, Derrick Lewis Aipoalani, DO at the Univ. of Minnesota Endocrinology of Mayo in Minneapolis, MN
In 2005, it was estimated that there were 20.8 million adults and children who are afflicted with the disease. That is pretty close to 7% of the population. Of those, 14.6 million people were diagnosed, but 6.2 million people were thought to have diabetes but were undiagnosed. Additionally, about 54 million children and adults are pre-diabetic with 1 1/2 million newly diagnoed people age 20 and older, showing up annually.
Diabetes is the most common cause of renal disease. In fact, high blood pressure and diabetes are the major causes of kidney disease. This leads to an estimated 70 percent of kidney failure with diabetes accounting of 44 percent of kidney failure cases. The early stages of kidney disease have virtually no symptoms or signs . It fights your body and when it is detected, the injury is so problematic that it quite often is too involved to prevent kidney failure. Once your kidneys fail, you have two options: dialysis or kidney transplant. If you do not receive either of these, you will eventually die.

How Diabetes causes Renal Disease
When the kidneys are working as they should, the glomeruli (tiny filters that are in the kidneys) keep proteins inside of your body. Protein is critical for a multitude of functions within your body and are needed to keep you healthy. Diabetes causes a greater concentration of glucose in the blood which damages the glomeruli. The result is that they can’t maintain the protein in the body and it leaks into the urine from the kidneys.
When the kidneys are thus damaged they no longer function correctly and do not clean our extra fluids as they should. When this occurs, the fluids and waste build up in the body instead of being removed in the urine. As this continues, the worse the damage becomes until the kidneys eventually cease to function.
The Progression of Renal Disease
It often takes years for diabetic kidney disease to develop. Some diabetics experience hyperfiltration in the first few years of their diabetes. This means that the glomeruli actually function at a much higher capacity than normal. Once the damage starts, however, it will continue to progress. As a person develops kidney disease, they will have a serum protein named albumin that will begin to leak into the urine in small amounts. At this time, normally the glomeruli are actually functioning normally.
The progression of the disease will lead to more protein leaking into the urine and the glomeruli begin to fail as the filtering apparatus begins to decrease. Waste is kept in the body due to the filtration failure. As a result, the kidneys cease to function.
How to Prevent Kidney Problems if you have Diabetes
If you have diabetes, you can normally prevent kidney problems. Take these suggestions to protect yourself: * Control your diabetes by eating well and getting good exercise * Take your medication as your doctor has directed * Have your physician test your urine and blood regularly for kidney problems * If testing shows that you do have kidney problems, look into medications such as ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers that can help keep your kidneys healthy.
A diagnosis of diabetes does not have to automatically lead to kidney disease. As long as you stay on top of your condition, manage it well and follow your endocronologist’s orders, there is no reason that you can’t live a long, healthy, happy life - without kidney disease.

Understanding Cancer

  1. Understanding Cancer

Cancer is not one disease, rather a category of about 100 different types of disease that have similar traits.

Cancer is a disease which starts with the mutation of a single healthy body cell genetically into a cancer cell. This cell and its descendants, produce a tumor (which is a grouping of cancerous cells), and tumors produce the symptoms that an individual experiences as cancer.

We don't recognize the disease until we start experiencing symptoms. If we ignore the symptoms for too long, the cancer can be almost impossible to stop.

  2. Know Your Body: Watch for Changes

One of its most alarming traits of cancer is its growth rate. That is why catching cancer in its early stages is so important, before it becomes invasive. Early detection is one of the most important factors in survival rates.

Pay attention to body signals. Watch for sores that do not heal or look suspicious. Women, do breast self exams at least monthly. If you feel some kind of lump anywhere in your body, have the doctor check it out.

Your doctor is your best friend here. But he (or she) will not be able to help you if you don't help him. You need to tell him about things that you've questioned in your mind. He may or may not find the problem on his own. The more information you can give him, the better.

A "Stage IV" cancer should only be treated with the most potent of the alternative cancer treatments. These patients are in a very dangerous situation and time is critical, thus their treatment should be among the strongest.

  3. Educate yourself. Go to the library, seek information online, seek articles on new treatments and find out what survival rates are. Go into your next doctor's appointment with a good understanding of medical terms and possible treatments.

  4. Seek the help your doctor and subsequently a specialist immediately.

Early detection is tantamount to your survival.

Discuss the type of cancer, the exact location, and treatment choices. If you don't like the choices you are confronted with, seek a second opinion.

  5. Continue to learn more about the disease, and the differences between a healthy cell and a cancerous cell, what they need and how they grow is critical to determining what to do to defeat the cancerous cells and to give your healthy cells their best chance of survival.

There are three main differences between the two.

    1) Healthy cells need and thrive on oxygen. Cancerous cells do not.
    2) Healthy cells are alkaline. Cancerous cells are acidic.
    3) Cancerous cells give off an excessive amount of ions, causing the cancerous cells to be positively charged.

Knowing these differences means that if you can change the climate of the body in these three areas, you can make it difficult to impossible for cells with these three characteristics to thrive.

  6. Change your diet immediately.

Eliminate sugar. Cancer cells thrive in a sugar intense environment. This is not at all to suggest that sugar causes cancer. Instead, elimination of sugars, including fructose (sugar derived from fruits), will keep the cancer cells from growing/thriving as quickly.

Eat lots of vegetables. All of them will aid your immune system.

Eliminate carbonated beverages. Healthy cells thrive in oxygenated environments. Carbonated beverages introduce more carbon dioxide into the system.

  7. If you smoke, cease smoking immediately. Yes, you've known that smoking was harmful, and you know it is difficult to quit, but knowing your body has cancer should awaken you to taking this threat more seriously. Try..

  8. Test your body's ph. If it is acidic, the cancer cells will thrive. If alkaline, your normal cells will thrive.

Change your body ph level. There are differnt ways to do this. Research and determine which way works for you.

  9. Detoxify your body. Give your body every chance to fight the cancer and to eliminate all negatives from your system.

  10. Eliminate stress from your life. Right! You have just been hit with the knowledge that you have a serious disease. Telling you to eliminate stress, when you have just heard very stressful news is very difficult to do. Regardless, do some quick life analysis. Other things that are stressful need to go from your life immediately.

  11. Add laughter to your regime. People who have claimed remission of cancer and even a cure have claimed to have done nothing different than to watch funny movies and laugh heartily on a continual basis. At the very least, it will better your outlook and there are studies that prove that a positive outlook will aid your body recover regardless of the ailment.

    Thats all for today....
    Sharing is Caring

Nutritional support for cancer - July 2010

hero-julie-food Nutritional support for cancer
There are no natural or nutritional products that have been proven to treat cancer. However, there is substantial evidence to support the benefits of a healthy diet and regular exercise at preventing and slowing the growth rate cancer and improving quality of life.

Sugar is the primary energy source for many cancer cells – studies suggest that cutting sugar intake can slow cancer growth. High sugar intake causes reactive release of insulin; high insulin levels (chronic) have been linked to increased rate of cancer growth.1 Maintaining healthy blood sugar and insulin levels is very important. Excess blood sugar levels, excess body fat (especially central obesity) and insulin resistance cause low level chronic inflammation which stimulates cancer growth. 2,3

Inflammation and oxidation play key roles in the development of cancer – nutrition and exercise can reduce oxidative damage and inflammation. Regular exercise and adequate protein intake will help to maintain muscle mass which will help with maintaining a healthy weight and help to counteract the effects of some hormone treatments. 1

Henry Osiecki, a dietician and clinical nutritionist with vast experience helping people with cancer recommends instigating a Ketogenic diet to restrict the energy source of the cancer cells (sugar) and to encourage apoptosis (programmed cell death – something cancer cells don’t do properly). A ketogenic diet will also assist in improving body composition – increasing muscle mass and reducing body fat. Essentially this diet has very low carbohydrates, adequate protein and increased “good” fats, the most important fats to increase are omega 3 fatty acids. Osiecki recommends following this diet for at least 52-60 days, then continuing with a diet high in vegetables, low in sugar and moderate in good fats and protein. 4

The New Image Ultra Diet Weight Management Programme is a ketogenic diet.

Colostrum
Numerous studies support colostrum as a natural immune booster. Chemical messengers called cytokines have been the most researched elements in the search for the cure for cancer – colostrum is naturally rich in cytokines. Colostral lactalbumin increases selective cancer cell apoptosis and lactoferrin may also have some anti-cancer activity. PRPs (proline rich polypeptides) and various immune and growth factors found in colostrum may be able to inhibit the spread or reduce the rate of cancer growth.

Epidermal growth factors in colostrum may also make the body more responsive to chemotherapy – meaning that lower doses may be able to be used to get the same effect as higher doses without concurrent colostrum use.

Colostrum can help to support healthy digestion, gut integrity and immunity which can be affected by chemotherapy and radiation.

While studies about how colostrum can assist people with cancer are still only in early stages and more research is required, what has been confirmed is that colostrum does not make cancer worse.5

Other important nutrients to ensure you are getting enough of are:
  • Folic acid - helps to maintain DNA integrity
  • Vitamin D3 – improves cancer cell apoptosis
  • Omega 3 – helps with inflammation, important aspect of ketogenic diet
  • Antioxidant – both fat soluble and water soluble antioxidants
  • General multi – dietary insurance

Specific supplements that may be of assistance:
  • Pure Paradise Noni – Noni (Morinda citrifolia) may increase immune function and natural killer cell activity, reduce inflammation and act as an antioxidant 6
  • Omega CoQ10 – source of omega 3 from fish oil, plus coenzyme Q10
  • Pycnogenol – powerful antioxidant formula
  • Alpha Lipid Colostrum capsules – convenient source of colostrum (suitable to use on a ketogenic diet)
  • Cellworx – concentrated PRPs from bovine colostrum
  • Ultra Diet Weight Management Programme – complete programme based on a ketogenic diet with lifestyle and exercise recommendations
  • RDA – broad spectrum multi vitamin and mineral supplement

With regard to pro/anti-inflammatory foods:

Avoid: Sugar and highly refined foods esp. high fructose corn syrup

Coffee/caffeine

Alcohol

Excessive red meat (choose lean cuts)

Overcooking food esp. meat (charring/BBQ)

Too much spicy food

Smoked and cured meats
Include: 5+ serves fresh vegetables daily – go for a variety of colour

1-2 servings fresh, low GI fruit daily e.g. berries (see ketogenic guidelines)

Turmeric

Garlic – always as part of a meal

Ginger – in cooking, fresh sliced in tea

Herbal teas such as chamomile, calendula and green tea

The best approach without full knowledge of someone’s health is to support them nutritionally, to minimise any adverse affects of conventional treatment (i.e. gut restoration) and to provide their body with the tools to strengthen immunity.

These are not drugs and the recommendation of products and lifestyle changes are not intended to offer therapeutic cures. Individual results from the use of nutritional products may vary. It is advisable to discuss with a health care practitioner the use of these as nutritional support as these suggestions do not take the place of a comprehensive face to face consultation.

Analosa

Analosa’s amazing weight loss story

Analosa has lost an amazing 54kg in three weeks using the Ultra Diet programme. She decided to give it a try after a bad bout of asthma left her physically exhausted. She was confined to bed, and could hardly move. “My body just couldn’t cope”, Analosa recalls. “My mind wanted to work but I could hardly move, I had no strength in my left arm and my eyes were blurred.” Analosa started on the cleansing diet on November 6, weighing 145kg. She started on Ultra Diet two days later and although she admits to ‘cheating a little’ along the way, she slimmed down rapidly to 91kg by the time she visited the New Image head office on November 26. Analosa’s goal is to get down to size 16 or 17. During her diet, she was too scared to use a scale on a daily basis - afraid that it might show her gaining weight again. Not so, and Analosa’s bubbly laugh, new figure, and new found energy all combine to tell the tale of her remarkable weight loss. Well done Analosa!

Christine Thompson, Dunedin, New Zealand

I used to be “Big!”

Right through my life, I was what most people would consider to be ‘Big’. In June, 1995 I was wearing size 22 clothes and weighed 98kgs. I was drinking up to 18 cups of coffee a day, doing no exercise and suffering a lot of headaches. When I was introduced to the Ultra Diet programme I wanted to start there and then, cost wasn’t a factor, I just wanted to be able to lose weight and get my health in order. With the Ultra Diet 2 programme and added fibre, RDAs and Flax Oil and I was under way. Five weeks further on I was 78kgs and fitting into size 18s. By Christmas I was out buying size 14 clothing and went on to a maintenance programme using Metabolytes and UD3. I continued to lose weight and am now 64kgs and wearing a size 12 (a new wardrobe!) I feel so much healthier and fitter - physically and mentally.

Anne Po-Wihongi, Auckland, New Zealand

Dramatic weight loss with Ultra Diet 2!

My name is Anne Po-Wihongi. Nearly two years ago, I was recommended by my doctor to change career and lose weight. I was overweight, overworked, had severe headaches and migraines, had irregular monthly cycles and was stressed out with a bad case of very low self esteem. My weight was 88kgs. The Doctor sent me for X-Ray and MSU tests, and a series of faecal occult bloods to exclude secondary causes for my thrombocytosis. I was referred to Middlemore Haematology Department for a bone marrow biopsy. Platelet count was in excess of 1300 x 109 litre. The normal count is 450 x 109 litre. The treatment I was given was 150g of aspirin daily, which I never took. In September 1997, I was introduced to the New Image Diet by Siniva Papalii and Meli Clegg who were presenting the programme at a meeting that night. I was so impressed by what I heard, I knew this was what I was searching for, so I joined there and then. I went on UD2, RDA, FibreMax, Co Q10 and Pycnogenol Herbal Plus. I lost two kilos in one week. Within two months I had a total loss of 20 kilos and I feel fantastic! Most of my symptoms have gone thanks to the quality products from New Image International. My platelet count now is 700 - 750 x 109 litre. I followed this programme faithfully for two months, exercising for 30 minutes every morning at 6am before going to work. Drinking two litres of water was an every day routine. My husband was very supportive and after seeing the results I have achieved, he now wants to attend his first OP. I am grateful to New Image International for giving me the opportunity to feel and look fantastic, as well as regaining my self esteem. My goal now is to share and care for my family, friends and anyone else I come in contact with who wants a good healthy lifestyle, wealth and a business opportunity.

Ms Robelle N. Punzalan, Philippines

Over 14.5kg lost in one month using Ultra Diet

I was pampered (food wise) when I was young. This led me to gain unwanted weight. I spent a lot of money and effort to slim down, attending health clinics but it was all in vain. I started with Ultra Diet, Fibre, RDAs, CoQ10 and Gymnema. Within ten days I couldn’t believe what I saw on the scales, I had lost 4.5kg (10lbs). I lost a total of 14.96kg (33lbs) in one month. When it came to being photographed, I always hid a part of my big self because I was so ashamed. The ‘after’ photo shows me today 33lbs less.

What is Colostrum?

Colostrum is literally ‘nature’s first food’. It is the pr-milk fluid that all female mammals give their newborn baby in the first few days after birth.

Colostrum is a highly complex cocktail of vital immune and growth factors that a baby needs to protect itself against the diseases it will be exposed to, and assists with the development of the newborn into a strong and healthy adult.

Human babies acquire their immunity in the womb prior to birth, receiving immune factors via the placenta. Breast feeding then provides the additional protection, which explains why breast-fed babies are generally healthier than those that are bottle fed.

Cows must provide all the immune and growth factors to their calves in the colostrum as they do not receive any while in the womb. It is not suprising therefore that a cow’s colostrum contains up to twenty times more immune factors than does human colostrum.

Because colostrum is non-species specific, it can significantly benefit all other mammals, including humans.

For centuries the colostrum taken from animals had been consumed by children and adults.

People of India have used it as a traditional remedy for thousand of years. Research over the past two decades has proven that bovine (cow) colostrum is one of the most effective nutritional supplements available for supporting the immune system. It is also well renowned for aiding tissue repair.

A complex substance, colostrum has many components, all of which have specific purposes and actions. Together they create a new ‘super food’ which can be used by just about anyone.

Note: New Image colostrum is obtained from pasture-fed cows, which only graze on peticide, hormone, antibiotic, and BSE free farmland, in New Zealand.

Can children take colostrum?
Absolutely. Colostrum can help growing children in many ways, from better concentration, increased memory plus children have a higher tendency to catch colds and illness from other schoolmates and colostrum will help immensely.

Can I take colostrum with other supplements and medications?
Colostrum actually helps your body and works to regulate your body's absorption rates. Colostrum heals the digestive tract so well that all substances eaten internally (food, herbs, natural healing substances, and medications) will become more bioavailability to the body. Although colostrum has no known drug interactions, you may find that the other supplements and medications that you are taking could have a more pronounced effect.

Do the immunoglobulins and growth factors in colostrum survive pasteurisation?
Tests have been carried out on colostrum (which is flash pasteurised at 72C for 15 seconds) show that the colostrum retains its bioactivity during this process.

How Does Colostrum Differ From Plain Milk?
Colostrum not only contains all the goodness of milk but also contains significant levels of growth promoting and disease fighting substances commonly referred to as growth factors, immune factors and immunoglobulins. These substances are also present in milk but at negligible levels. Further, colostrum has a much higher protein, vitamin, mineral content and is lower in lactose.

How does colostrum interact with other medicines and supplements?
Colostrum actually helps your body and works to regulate your body's absorption rates. In effect you will be getting more bang for your buck with everything you consume whether its water, supplements and food. You will be getting greater benefits since your body will be able to utilize them more. You may even find that you don't need to take as much as normal since your body is able to absorb all the nutrients. No known contraindications with colostrum use with medications or supplements. Colostrum is a food.

How does colostrum produce the anti-aging results?
Colostrum works with your body to utilize its natural substances and increases your overall health. After puberty our body begins slowing down the production of growth hormones. These hormones are necessary for the reproduction of virtually all of our body cellular tissue. It has been shown that by age 80 we are producing virtually no growth hormones, and so we age and die. Colostrums growth factors are the actual hormones that stimulate the normal reproduction of body cellular tissue. Normal reproduction means just that (normal) not aged, cancerous, wrinkled, or weakened. The New England Journal of Medicine (a few years back) stated that the most effective anti-aging process would be simply the replacement of growth hormones at proper levels to slow, possibly stop and even reverse the aging processes.

How Does Colostrum Work?
The main function in the newborn is in the form of transfer of passive immunity from the mother to the child. The mother has been exposed to a variety of environmental factors and organisms to which her immune system has produced antibodies during her lifetime. In transfer of passive immunity the mother passes on her complement of antibodies to these various factors onto her offspring. In humans and apes the mother passively immunises her young in utero by passage of antibodies through the placenta. In animals where maternal antibodies do not pass the placental barrier (horses, cattle, pigs, and sheep) the young are passively immunised immediately after birth by way of colostrum. In these species the maternal antibodies present in the colostrum are absorbed directly through the gut in the first few days following birth.

How much colostrum should I take?
The amount of colostrum you take varies from person to person. The label suggests 2 to 3 capsules twice daily, but if your recovering from an injury you may want to start off taking more than this. Also, if you feel a cold or flu coming on you may want to up your dosage to help you recover quicker and relieve your symptoms.

I am vegetarian and I do not eat animal food.
Colostrum is neither animal nor vegetable. We take very good care of our cattle and make sure they are healthy and live a long happy life. Mother Nature produced colostrum for every mammal on Earth and it is by far the healthiest choice. With that said, the choice is completely yours.

I don't want to take colostrum away from the baby calf's that need it!
Don't worry, we don't deprive calves of their colostrum. Calves need it as much as any mammal and many calves would die without it. We make sure the calves get their fill first and then we take the remainder.

Is Bovine Colostrum Safe?
Bovine colostrums have been used for years as a food supplement, its use and safety is well documented. Colostrum is completely safe; it has no negative side effects and is a whole and natural food that can be consumed in ANY quantity. There are absolutely no toxicity levels. Further the manufacture and use of dairy products, and their associated safety and nutritional benefits is also well known. Through quality control management of the entire manufacturing process, from collection of the colostrum, through to packaging and storage, ensures the colostrum is delivered in perfect condition, certified to be fit for human consumption.

Should Colostrum be pasteurised?
Absolutely! Cow manure can easily splash onto the udders contaminating them with E-coli, salmonella and other pathogenic bacteria. This creates the potential for contamination of dairy products.

Dairy products (for human consumption) must be pasteurised to kill these pathogens. There are two ways of pasteurising colostrum - the optimal flash (15 second) pasteurisation and a slow 30-minute vat process. Flash pasteurisation uses the expensive, high-tech equipment found in the modern dairy that does not denature the colostrum. With the less expensive, 30-minute pasteurisation process, a huge vat of colostrum is heated from the outside. It takes a long time to heat a large kettle of colostrum to the required temperature. During this interval, bacteria grow in the colostrum.

As the bacteria feed upon the colostrum, it denatures and destroys its effectiveness. Most colostrum that is being sold to the public today has been prepared for the animal feed market and has not been pasteurised. Colostrum is pasteurised to the most demanding of International Standards - 72°C for 15 seconds - to ensure the highest microbiological quality.

Should I be taking colostrum if I am pregnant?
Colostrum definitely wont hurt you or your fetus, but as always with anything you take during pregnancy you should check with your health care professional first.. Colostrum will help to supplement your immune system which suffers during child birth, it will help you recover faster and it will also help you to lose those extra pounds quicker associated with pregnancy.

What about my pets? Can they benefit from colostrum?
Yes! As a matter of fact, most pets love colostrum. Bovine colostrum is not species specific, dogs and cats will gain many health benefits from colostrum.

What are Antibodies?
Antibodies are very specialized molecules that are produced by the body's immune system. They are produced in response to the host being exposed to an immunogenic or foreign substance (antigen) such as an infectious microbe. There action is to ward off and or neutralise potentially disease-causing agents. A very important feature of antibodies is that are directed specifically to their antigen that induced their formation.

What are growth factors?
Growth factors are very small bio-active molecules which promote growth and maturation of various cell types and tissues. They are found in very high concentrations in colostrum. They not only stimulate normal growth and development but also help regenerate and accelerate the repair of aged or injured muscle, skin, bone, cartilage and nerve tissues. Growth factors also stimulate the body to burn fat for fuel instead of muscle tissue in times of fasting or dieting. They also help build lean muscle and have been shown to have a positive effect on athletic performance.

What are Immune Factors?
In addition to immunoglobulins there are other substances in colostrum that have an immune function. Collectively they have been termed "Immune Factors". Their function is to complement the various functions associated with the immune response.

What are Immunoglobulins?
The immunoglobulins are a group of specialised bio-active proteins or molecules found in serum and other tissue fluids, including the milk of all mammals. There are five classes of immunoglobulin that are recognised in mammals Immunoglobulin G (IgG), Immunoglobulin A (IgA), Immunoglobulin M (IgM), Immunoglobulin E (IgE), and Immunoglobulin D (IgD). The function of these molecules is to bind to invading organisms and to activate specific actions that help prevent to prevent infection and to rid the body of disease causing agents. They function in cell killing, inflammation and prevention of bacterial and viral attachment. The most prevalent class of immunoglobulin in all species is IgG. Immunoglobulins have an integral role in the immune defence system in that they form antibodies.

What if I'm a sports person?
Sports people's bodies need optimum nutrition and they frequently injure themselves when playing so colostrum is vital, both for optimum and faster rates of healing after injury.

What if I'm lactose intolerant?
The amount of lactose in colostrum is scant - 163 mg. in two capsules compared to 13,000 mg. in one 8-oz of milk. Any discomfort would more likely be a sign that colostrum is healing the digestive tract.

What if I'm over weight?
Colostrum is great for making the body work more effectively, which makes weight loss easier.

What is Colostrum?
Colostrum is the first food for growth and immunity; it is the pre-milk or rather the first lacteal secretion that is produced by the mother in all mammals immediately following the birth of her young. Colostrum is frequently referred to as “lifes first food”. It not only supports life but also makes it flourish. Colostrum is produced in the first few days following the birth of the newborn. Colostrum is a non-toxic, non-allergenic food supplement that has no known negative interactions with drugs, food or other supplements. Each drop contains the promise of life: the immunoglobulins, growth factors, antibodies, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, and other substances designed to provide the body with the ability to face a lifetime of invasion by micro-organisms and environmental toxins. Colostrum is a non-toxic, non-allergenic food supplement that has no negative interactions with drugs, food or other supplements.

What is Immuno-Supplementation?
Local protection in the form of immuno-supplementation with bovine antibodies has been shown to be an effective means of providing local protection to the gastrointestinal tract against disease.

Bovine immunoglobulin in the form of antibodies, both specific and non-specific, has been shown to be effective against various diseases. In trials it has been successfully shown that specific antibodies in bovine milk are effective against both enteropathogenic and enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, cryptosporidium, rotavirus, and Shigella flexneri.

What is Passive Immunity?
In all species of mammals the transfer of passive immunity occurs where the mother passes on her complement of antibodies to her young. In the case of the newborn this helps in protecting the young against potentially pathogen agents until the time it's own immune system is sufficiently developed to ward of infection on it's own.

What is Passive Local Protection?
In humans passive transmission of immunity occurs prior to birth and thus a newborn human baby at birth is born with a complement of maternal antibodies. After birth the antibodies present in human colostrum and milk function in local protection of the gut. In animals like the horse, cow, sheep, and goat passive transmission of maternal antibodies occurs in the first 20-48 hours following birth by way of colostrum. During this time the newborn animal absorbs intact maternal antibodies present in the colostrum directly through the digestive tract. After the first few days the animal's digestive tract matures (gut closure) and the direct adsorption of intact antibody ceases. At this point any antibodies present in the colostrum and milk act in local protection of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

What is the Adaptive Immune System?
The adaptive immune system produces a specific response in response to an infective agent. This specific response is in the form of antibodies, which are produced to neutralize the invading agent.

A very important feature of the adaptive immune system is that it involves memory, in that gives rise to resistance to repeated exposure or infection by the same invading agent. The importance of this memory factor is seen in childhood diseases such as Chicken Pox, Measles, and Mumps in which the adaptive immune system produces a life-long immunity following infection.

What is the Immune System?
The immune system is a natural defence mechanism by which the body fights infection. It is divided into two functional systems, the innate and adaptive immune systems.

What is the Innate Immune System?
This is the first line of defence by which the host combats infectious agents and pathogenic microbes. This is non-specific response, which proves effective against most infective agents. The skin is part of the innate immune system as it acts as a preventive barrier to most infective agents.

When is colostrum collected?
The first colostrum collected after birth is reserved for the newborn calf. New Image colostrum is collected within first 36 hours.

Why Bovine Colostrum?
Interestingly, bovine colostrum is the only form of colostrum that is not species specific. In other words, it contains all of the immune and growth factors found in all other sources and thus it can significantly benefit all other mammals, including humans of course.

Because calves are born without any immunity to airborne, disease-causing organisms, their mothers colostrum must contain a very large amount of immune and health factors. As a result bovine colostrum has 10 - 21 times the factors of human colostrum, making it the richest source of colostrum available.

Why Can't I Get Colostrum From A Local Farmer?
You can. It needs to be refrigerated and consumed before it spoils. Raw colostrum is not pasteurised and contains immune factors from just one cow. This differs from processed colostrum, which is concentrated and provides a broad base of immune factors that have been pooled from hundreds and sometimes thousands of cows.

Why do I need colostrum, as an adult?
Once puberty has passed, our bodies begin the aging process by gradually producing less of the immune and growth factors that help us fight off disease and heal damaged body tissue. Colostrum is the only natural source of these life-giving components.

Why is Colostrum Important?
Colostrum is the first food that is available to the newborn. It is not only highly nutritious but also contains substances (immunoglobulins and immune factors) that help to stimulate and augment the newborns immune system thus helping to protect the vulnerable newborn from it's new potentially harmful environment (passive transmission of immunity). Further it contains contains substances (growth factors and cytokines) which act to stimulate the development, maturation and proliferation of various tissues and organs.

The significance of colostrum is best illustrated in farm animals, such as the horse, cow, goat, sheep and pig. In these animals passive transmission of immunity occurs after birth in the form of colostrum. If these animals do not receive colostrum in the first 12 - 24 hours following birth they have a very good chance of not surviving (mortality rates of up to 25% have been reported).

Why is Local Passive Protection Important?
The importance of passive local protection is evidenced in the newborn calf where diarrhoea and other enteric infections (scours) can prove fatal. It has been widely accepted that the best source of nourishment for the infant mammal is mother's milk. This has largely been attributed to not only the nutritional benefits of mother's milk but also the presence of milk immunoglobulins providing local passive protection of the GI tract.
